agna moraine's autobiography/rentamerica split

sorry for the lack of posts this week. i was moving home from boston for the holidays and was just too busy to post anything. here's one from the depths of skinny-jean history:

released in 2000, this split from two of the early scene's more 'infamous' emo bands, rentamerica and agna moraine's autobiography, consists of six tracks of pretty typical early screamo. rentamerica, famous for some antics at a show involving crying over "the worms" that were dying because of capitalist development of the earth, produce more chaotic, violent screamo, while agna moraine is more melodic and tame, while still retaining the artsy pretentiousness of emo.

elsamort - summer '05 demo

elsamort was a a punk band from lafayette, louisiana. as far as i know, this is their only release, but it's one of my favorite screamo records of all time. dark and chaotic, disjointed and discordant. they use samples in some songs that just make it even more powerful. i only wish i'd been around to see them play.

allegory of the cave - discography

allegory of the cave were a two-piece band from orlando, florida. they have a song called, "brainstorm crushed the science fair", off of their split with spectres, and if that name doesn't tell you exactly how quintessentially screamo this is, then you're reading the wrong blog. they had two releases, the aforementioned split with spectres, another screamo band from san francisco, and an eight track demo.

eva-01 discography

eva-01 were a screamo band from lille, france. they put out two splits and an ep on gehirn records called "ep01". chaotic and discordant, eva-01 are one of the coolest french bands that i've ever listened to. the fact that they're named for neon genesis evangelion (i think) makes them even more kick-ass.

sinaloa - fathers and sons lp

the first lp released from sinaloa seems to be an overlooked essential release. formed in 2001, somerville, ma; sinloa redefined what screamo would essentially become. releasing only a demo before this release, the band went on to release another lp and several splits with notable bands.(ampere, daniel striped tiger) the dual vocals of the band offer to the listener what a lot of screamo bands at the time of their activity didn't, and that's vocals that didn't need to be super harsh to show the emotion stressed in their lyrics. truly an awesome release from an awesome band.

ed warner's cage/rookie rock radio split, inaugural post

split 7" from two french bands, ed warner's cage and rookie rock radio.
the record showcases the two bands' distinct styles of screamo: the emo-violence of ed warner's cage and the post-rock influenced melodicism of rookie rock radio. the gorgeous moments of the record fall on the rookie rock radio side of the split, while the raw emotion and expressive experimentation of ed warner's cage evoke screamo's hardcore roots. i don't know much about rookie rock radio, though ed warner's cage has a french wikipedia page that mentions their formation in 2002 and a few of the band members.
